A sharing from Daozhi (2005)
Church camps have always held a special place in my heart. It was a time when everyone just put everything aside and came together to bond and fellowship. Fun has always been the more visible focus of Alpha camp, but I am sure some of you will agree with me that the camp is made wholesome with the other elements that are so important to us, Christians.
I would never forget the "bottom-of-our-hearts" sharings about our lives on the last night of the camp, how we learn to empathize with one another. The buzz-times when my group members just shared with simplicity how they felt about today's programs because they were too tired from the day's activities to describe in detail, the mealtimes when I got to serve our siblings in Christ, bringing them their lunch packets and filling up their cups. The fact that I was happy to be of service to my siblings in Christ was remarkable in itself but so natural when God shows His love through us. The outings we have during the camp when I had fun with one another and we learned to help each other along the way were unforgettable. The talks when I took the chance to "recharge" for the next program, but fortunately when He has something to say to me, I just wake in time to catch it, opps. The period of quiet time and praying where I just treasure this chance of just being close to Him. Last but the not least, the photo-taking sessions when we capture these wonderful moments of our lives on film.
Serving in the camp committee has been a blessing for me as well. I was really touched to see how God works in all of us, using our collective humble efforts to His glory. Of course, there were challenges and differences that we faced, but the grace of God carried us through all the way.
Sadly, I might not be able to take part in this year's camp but I sincerely hope that it will be a camp that happens and becomes an integral part of everyone's personal growth and an unforgettable experience.
